Food Pantry & Financial Assistance
Food Pantry & Financial Assistance
We understand that there are times when it is impossible to make ends meet without a little help. At Evergreen, we believe we are called to help bridge the gap when that is the case for you and your family. Our Feed My Sheep food pantry is open every Wednesday (occassional holiday closure) and food is distributed from 9:00-9:30am. Please bring your photo identification with you. We invite people to come for food once every three months.
Additionally, we know food is not the only need. Therefore, we also help when there are gaps in bill payment. To secure an appointment for Wednesday you should call the church office at 334-792-7898 on Tuesday morning sharply at 8:30 am. The appointments fill quickly so we encourage you to call at 8:30 and redial until someone answers. Unfortunately, we are unable to return voicemails left for appointments. We currently help with utilities and/or rent of homes and/or apartments but do not help with deposits or hotel rentals.
Where does all this support come from?
Funding for the food pantry and financial assistance outreach is provided by congregational donations of non-perishable food and monetary gifts.
Who works in the food pantry?
Each Tuesday morning volunteers gather to shelve groceries and then fill two grocery bags (about 30 pounds) per family in preparation for distribution on Wednesday mornings.
How can I volunteer?
If you are interested in volunteering please call the church office and ask to speak to the Outreach Team coordinator.
They can give you more information on how to volunteer in the food pantry and/or with financial assistance.
I can't volunteer, but I'd like to help. Is there something else I can do?
You can always provide non-perishable food items for the food pantry. However, financial contributions go a long way when spent at the Wiregrass Area Food Bank through our food pantry. You can also make a financial contribution through the church office for the financial assistance program.
