New Here?

From Our Pastor

Rev. Joseph Johnson, Dmin

We are delighted you have decided to visit our website and hope you are able to spend a little time "getting to know us!"   Here you will find some information on what we believe, ministries that are important to us, and ways you can be part of the work God is doing through Evergreen.  We know this is only one small way for you to learn about us.  We cordially invite you to visit with us on Sundays, or stop by the church during the week so we can spend a little time getting acquainted.

At Evergreen, we seek to serve the whole community as we welcome all people to participate and serve.

At the heart of our life together are vibrant Mission efforts providing for the needs of the larger community primarily through our Food Pantry and Financial Assistance programs.  We also commit ourselves to the development of our children and their adult mentors in matters of faith and life.

On Sundays we offer Sunday School at 9:30am and worship for the community begins in the sanctuary at 10:30am.  Children participate in their own Children's Worship in the Youth Suite but on the first Sunday of the month, Communion Sunday, they return to the Sanctuary to experience the Service of the Lord's Supper.

Our worship seeks to combine imagination and creativity with traditional worship practices in order to hear afresh God's Word for an ever-changing world.  Music is lively, sermons are thought-provoking and prayers are from the heart.  Here you will see children, youth, and adults participating in leadership roles as we hope to involve the whole community in intergenerational moments of worship and service.

Please know of our deep gratitude for your interest in Evergreen Presbyterian Church.  If we can assist you, please contact us through the contact information provided on this site.  Please know of our prayers for you and your family.  May God's Peace be with you for the living of these days.

What We Believe

Jesus Christ

Our conviction is that Jesus Christ himself must stand at the center of all our theological reflections, or we are committing the sin of idolatry. If we want to better understand the character of God, for example, we look to Jesus Christ, and he reveals that God is a God of love as well as power. If we want to ponder who we are created to be, we look to Jesus Christ and see true humanity living in perfect response to the love of God.

God

Our knowledge of God and God’s purpose for humanity comes from the Bible. We believe God is the creator of all and dwells in each person. We see the Creator as the guide for our lives as we try to emulate the life of Jesus Christ, God's Son.

The Holy Spirit

On Pentecost, the seventh Sunday after Easter, Christians commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit to Jesus’ early followers.Through the Holy Spirit, God empowers us to grow in faith, make more mature decisions and live more faithful lives.

Sin

Presbyterians believe the Bible when it says that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Unlike crime, which involves the breaking of human law, sin is a condition of the heart or an expression of that condition where we are estranged from God and fail to trust in God.

Salvation

Our conviction is that God has offered us salvation because of God’s loving nature. It is not a right or a privilege to be earned by being “good enough.” No one of us is good enough on our own — we are all dependent upon God’s goodness and mercy.

The Church

Church connectionalism is shorthand for saying that we are one body—not because we find one another agreeable or each other’s views congenial, but because God in grace and mercy has called us together. Our unity does not lie in us. Our unity is Jesus Christ.
